We,
Ethiopian Muslims, shall not participate on the election of Executives
for the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council (Majlis) scheduled for
October 7, 2012 due to the following reasons:
1. The so-called election executives are not only unelected by the public, but also they are incapable and ill-prepared persons, who do not wish the unity and peacefulness of the Muslim community.
2. Those who presently claim to be election executives are people who have been relentlessly working to impose the teachings of Al-Ahbash, under the guise of a newly formed association they named Ahl al-Sunna Wal-Jamaa Wa al-Suffi, against which we have been protesting for more than a year.
3. The eligibility criterion for both electorates and candidates was set by the executives of the unelected Majlis, whom Ethiopian Muslims across the nation have unequivocally refused to recognize, and whom, owing to the many mischief and injustice they have done over the past years, we demand them to be brought to justice; and we also do not believe in the criterion they set;
4. The time and the place where the election is decided to take place has been firmly rejected by the Muslim community;
5. Our representatives, the people we delegated to present our demands to the government, are still in detention for reasons we do not know. This has also damaged our morale. Owing to these and other similar reasons, we will not take part in the election of Majlis executives, orchestrated by the so-called Ulama Council.
Therefore, Muslim communities across the country are hereby called on to effect TOTAL BOYCOTT of the planned election in their respective localities.
